On 15 May 2004, Pro Patrimonio Romania organized at the Lebada hotel, situated on Saint Pantelimon Island in Bucharest, its first fund raising event: The Heritage Spring Evening The Heritage Spring Evening Campaign: A Future for our Past
This was the first edition of an annual spring event that Pro Patrimonio will organize to promote the preservation of Romania's architectural and natural heritage.
The goals for this event were:
|
|
to raise awareness for Romanian heritage related topics, as the dramatic state of Romania's heritage, the lack of funds, the constant need for awareness and education campaigns constantly challenge Pro Patrimonio in enlarging its mandate and areas of activity |
|
to raise 10,000 Euros designated to be used for the restoration and preservation of Golescu Manor House and its historic garden. The house and its annex are situated in the foothills of the Southern Carpathians, on the slopes above Campulung-Muscel, with a view over the town and valley towards the east, south and west; the woodland garden north of the house turns into a forest. |
The restoration of the houses (the main building and the annex) and of a beautiful garden, a dendrological park, is on its way of being executed. Once restored, it will serve to a multifold purpose: memorial house, cultural community center, headquarters of the local Pro Patrimonio branch, small high standards hotel, for selected tourist groups, including week-end seminars, educational and community awareness programmes.
At the event, HH Prince Radu of Hohenzollern – Veringen, guest of honor, presented the message of HRH Princes Margarita of Romania:
“The event of this evening is an inspiring and familiar one. I always believed that looking at your past and trying to evaluate and understand it means to value its richness on behalf of the future and for a better management of the present. (…) This is way I appreciate Pro Patrimonio, as an idea and as an organization. It illustrates, in the most appropriate manner, how one should deal with the value of heritage. Since its establishment, Pro Patrimonio has been helping Romanian heritage to be discovered, reevaluated, saved and enriched. This is a great job.”
Music performed by the Elite Physicians Orchestra who has so graciously donated their performance.
A silent auction was organized based on private donors and sponsors. Over 250 people attended the event and the net sum raised was 10,078 Euro of which 5000 euro and building materials of 2500 euro had been generously offered by Lafarge Group in Romania, according to the 3 year partnership contract between Pro Patrimonio Romania and Lafarge, signed in 2004.
