Pro Patrimonio has offered financial support for the restoration of the interior frescoes of the Voronets Monastery, in the North of Moldavia (the Romanian province, not to be confused with the Republic of Moldavia, an independent state).

Removal of layers of soot accumulated over centuries of smoking candles in the nave of this world-renowned monastery church have revealed the magnificent frescoes commissioned by Prince Stephen the Great of Moldavia late in the 15th century. The frescoes can now be admired in addition to the better known outside frescoes. With this restoration it will become possible to reassess the artistic and religious significance of this ensemble.
