Romanian architectural and natural heritage is in a desperate need of urgent and sustained restoration work after more than forty five years of neglect during the communist era and of a difficult transition period after 1989.

The Pro Patrimonio Foundation is dedicated to the protection of this heritage, an important component of any nation's identity.

Much is at risk in Romania. Inadequate resources, corrosive policies of the communist era, and the quickening pace of modern life are inimical to the careful nurturing of the nation's fragile heritage.

By rescuing, restoring and conserving endangered buildings, lands and environments of cultural interest and historic significance, Pro Patrimonio contributes to the present and future well-being of Romanian society.

Our philosophy goes beyond the simple restoration of old buildings. Through our projects we also aim at reviving traditional crafts and skills, restoring community pride in its heritage, offering a memorable cultural experience for visitors, and at stimulating economic development.
